A sailing yacht is traditionaly and mostly considered to be a monohull, a centerhull (hull) or fixed keel below the water's surface, is used for stability! Multihull's, by defenition, have more than one hull in the water, offering more space and stability.
A boat for day trips, need not be one for over night stays and can be of less than 10m.
For those wanting to spend more time on the sail boat and sleeping on board is an option, a "weekender " is an option. A " weekender" is usually around 10m or more, has a space below decks to sleep two or three people and is comfortable for the weekend trip where staying on board is the intention!
Cruising yachts fall into the 30-foot/ 9m to 46-foot/14m range, an option for the more adventurists that plan to do more than a short trip over night close by! Acruiser has more comfort, power and independance. The cabin below often has a few seporate rooms, making it more comfortable for friends and families. Cruisers have large freshwater tanks and are designed for long range travels!.
